I'm Still Here!

Hey guys, I know it's been quite a while since my last actual birding post, too long in fact. I haven't really been able to get out much with the spring semester in full swing. Good news though! I was accepted as a junior transfer to UC Irvine, which was the home of that worm-eating warbler this winter.

Also, I am tentatively signed up for a summer program in Heridia, Costa Rica(!) this summer through UCI. I will take 8 units, two classes - one on Biodiversity and Conservation, and the other on The Pre-History of Costa Rica. The classes are at the Universidad Interamerica de Costa Rica, and we take three side trips - to Arenal, Punta Leona, and Guyabo and Turriaba. Needless to say, I'm very excited about birding Costa Rica. Field guide reccomendations anyone?

Lastly, I did go birding a few days ago, and only got a few semi-decent shots, I'll post them below for the sake of adding color to this post. I particularly like the one of the willow fuzz because it looks like its snowing =)

To my bug people: moth or butterfly? species?

My Guitar's New Paint-Job

One of my best friends (my non-related little sister really) and I painted a Red-tailed Hawk on my guitar. I had the idea to paint it a while ago, it was a cheap guitar, and I only play for fun, so I thought it would be great to personalize it. Alex is a talented artist, and so I asked her if she'd be willing to do the artwork for me. She agreed and together we figured out the right bird, and bought the paints. We chose to model our RTHA after the one across the cover of the Sibley (altered a bit in accordance with the different color morphs on the inside as well) Then in one 5+ hour sitting, Alex painted my bird, with much input and backseat painting by yours truly =)
